Short for “picture element,” a pixel is the smallest unit (often a square) that comprises a digital image. Every digital image, whether it is a digital file or digital display, is comprised of pixels. When examined very closely, each pixel within an image consists of a single color. Pixels are usually very small and can be seen when a digital images is “zoomed up” or viewed with intense magnification.
