Art & Design Professor
Mia Cinelli graduated from Northern Michigan University’s School of Art & Design with a BFA in Graphic Communications in 2011. Shortly after she moved to Ann Arbor, Michigan, to complete her MFA in Art & Design at the University of Michigan, Penny W. Stamps School of Art & Design.
Throughout graduate school she worked as a freelance designer, teaching undergraduates during the academic year, and teaching a Portfolio Prep class to high-school students through the Stamps Pre-College Summer Program. She also worked as a Rapid Prototyping Consultant at the UM-3D Lab.
In 2014, Mia was hired as an Assistant Professor of Art & Design at Defiance College in Defiance, Ohio, tasked with pioneering a new Design program. The program incorporates both graphic and product design, allowing students to study design in a holistic manner before choosing a concentration in 2D or 3D design. She is also currently the Director of the Women’s Commission Art Gallery at Defiance College.
Mia’s work has been featured on Dezeen, Fast Company, MTV, Design Milk, Design Taxi, Paste Magazine, People Magazine, Notcot, The Daily Mail, and Yorokobu, among others. She currently lives in Defiance, Ohio, with her fiance and cat. She is thankful every day for the amazing education she received at NMU.
